The most common scorpion species in Southeast Texas is the striped-bark scorpion (Centruroides vittatus, shown here). Scorpions feed primarily on insects, so as far as that goes they can be considered beneficial. The problem is that they can also inflict a nasty sting to humans and domestic animals when they are disturbed. This sting can be quite painful, and even fatal to individuals who are sensitive to stings.
In addition, scorpions have the annoying habit of taking up residence in places where people accidentally stumble upon them, such as inside shoes, under beds, and in crawl spaces and other dark areas. Shaking out your boots before putting them on isn't just a Texas legend. It's a necessary part of getting dressed in areas where Scorpions are common.
Professional scorpion control, however, is the best way to prevent scorpion stings. We provide treatment for scorpions as part of all of our residential pest control service programs.
