There are many species of cockroaches, but only a few are common residential pests in Texas.
The most common cockroaches we find in Texas are the German cockroach (Blatella Germanica, pictured here), the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana), the smoky brown cockroach (Periplaneta fuliginosa), and the Oriental cockroach (Blatta orientalis).
German cockroaches are most commonly found in kitchens and bathrooms, where they like to live under the sink, in food cabinets, and in the cracks and crevices around the baseboards and trim. They favor a warm, dark, damp surroundings close to food and water. Adults have wings, but they do not fly.
Smoky brown cockroaches are more commonly encountered in basements, water-damaged attics, or other damp, secluded locations. Unlike the other roaches commonly encountered by exterminators in Texas, smoky brown cockroaches can fly quite well and are attracted to light.
American cockroaches and Oriental cockroaches are frequently found in basements, boiler rooms, wood piles, sheds, and other dark, damp places. They are repelled by light.
Oriental cockroaches cannot fly. American cockroaches are very weak and clumsy flyers who sometimes fly a few feet, but that's all.
Control for all species of cockroaches found in Southeast Texas is part of all of our regular pest control programs.
